Tighten Security with
ADD Energy E3® |
|

|
ADD Systems is pleased to announce additional
security enhancements in ADD Energy
E3 2009 that help protect your system.
One of the many ways to decrease the
vulnerability of the PC is to restrict access
to as few resources as possible. E3 2009 uses Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5, which
allows us to remove requirements for write
access to theWindows folder. You can take
advantage of this by altering the privileges
of the users who run E3, denying them
write access to the Windows folder. This
could reduce the number and type of
viruses your systems are exposed to because
viruses that use the Windows folder
to overwrite existing programs will be crippled
or stopped. Be aware, however, that
changing the privileges of E3 users also depends
on the needs of other applications
they must run.
Changing user privileges is only one step
in risk reduction. As always, your antivirus
software must be up to date, firewalls
properly configured, and company Internet
guidelines understood by your staff.
While nothing is foolproof, taking this
step provides one more barrier, especially
to threats not yet identified by your antivirus
software. This feature just became
available with the latest E3 software version
(9.01). In addition to Windows versions
of Load Track, the Freight Matrix,
Accounts PayableAdd-ons, Delivery Maintenance
and our Budget module, it's one
more compelling reason to consider an upgrade.

PAMS security features
For PAMS users, ADD Systems has the
following features available to minimize
bank account security fraud by using a Positive
Pay file system. This feature allows a
company to require that their bank use a
confirmation record for all payment transactions.
The Positive Pay file feature is
available for both the AP and PR modules.
It transmits a file to your bank that is used
to verify all check and EFT transactions by
providing a matching transaction for each
draft or payment in advance. The file includes
the bank account number, date,
check number, and amount. If a check has
been voided, an updated record is sent with
a “V” in front of the prior transaction line.
The next release of PAMS will also provide
several changes directed at securing
sensitive data by storing it all in a central
file that is encrypted with 256-byte AES
(Advanced Encryption Standard). Some of
the information to be encrypted will be
credit card, bank account and Social Security
Numbers. The user login and passwords
will also be encrypted. There will be
an increase in the user login to a maximum
size of 10 characters and the user password
is being increased to 12 characters to meet
the Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards.
Your company can determine the strength
of its users’ passwords and the frequency
that passwords must be changed.
