What makes this number important? I am certain that for many of us, we might say that there is nothing significant about 44 and that it’s just another number. Perhaps you can relate it to a birthday or to one of the great sports legends like Hank Aaron or Reggie Jackson (# 44). Others will associate the number 44 with the passing of the torch from our 44th president Barack Obama to the 45th President Elect Donald Trump. Some others may know the number 44 as both a “happy number” [1] and a “tribonacci number” [2]. (I can’t honestly say that I knew what a Tribonacci number was before I wrote this blog post).
To ADD Systems, 2017 will signify 44 years of service to a wonderful industry. To me 44 represents 88% of my life (yes, I’ll be 50 this year). I grew up helping my father, who started ADD Systems, in and around the office. I stuffed envelopes for marketing campaigns and manned the tradeshow booth and cleaned the computer room at a young age back in the 70’s. I’ve watched the industry change in those 44 years and I’m excited about the future.
2017 will be a busy year with the pending releases of ADD Energy E3® v.17, ADD eStore®, Raven®, Pegasus®, Atlas BI® and SmartConnect®. The advancement of our products for their use by you, our clients, is always a top priority and something that our track record speaks to. We’ll be holding our Business Tech Conference, May 16-19, 2017 at the Disney Boardwalk Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida where we’ll be revealing some of our initiatives over the past 24 months. This event is packed with information on what is coming and what is available today! We hope to see you there.
Every year I attempt to see many of our clients face-to-face and in the field at your office. I’m excited about these meetings and the opportunity to listen to each and every one I meet. I look forward to shaking the hands of many that I consider friends and I look forward to making new friends with those that I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting. 44 is indeed a “happy number” for ADD Systems and I look forward to making 2017 your happy year even if your company is not 44 years old.
Happy New Year, May it be filled with happiness and health for you and your family!
Bruce C. Bott, President
1. A happy number is a number defined by the following process: Starting with any positive integer, replace the number by the sum of the squares of its digits, and repeat the process until the number either equals 1 (where it will stay), or it loops endlessly in a cycle which does not include 1. Those numbers for which this process ends in 1 are happy numbers, while those that do not end in 1 are unhappy numbers (or sad numbers).
2. The tribonacci numbers are like the Fibonacci numbers, but instead of starting with two predetermined terms, the sequence starts with three predetermined terms and each term afterwards is the sum of the preceding three terms. The first few tribonacci numbers are:
0, 0, 1, 1, 2, 4, 7, 13, 24, 44, 81, 149, 274, 504, 927, 1705, 3136, 5768, 10609, 19513, 35890, 66012, …
