We all know backups are important, but it really doesn’t hit home until you need them. Your backups may mean the difference between a blip and a disaster. If you have a sudden hardware failure, are involved in a natural disaster or detect malware, the integrity of your backups will be one of the most important things to keep your company running. That’s why it is important to make sure your backups are being done, and being done right.
With a successful backup, your business can be up and running quickly after a disaster. Those backups can be loaded onto another computer or into the ADD Systems cloud, and you can be back to business with no more than a day or two of lost data. Too often, however, a backup is loaded only to find out that it is unusable. Maybe the backup has not been running successfully, has been infected with a virus, or perhaps it was left on-site and destroyed. Now you have a major disruption to your business, one that may leave lasting scars.
To avoid this situation ask yourself a few questions:
- Are you maintaining a regular backup schedule? (Consider automating the task!)
- Are you performing frequent tests to ensure your backups have completed successfully? (Your application vendor can help!)
- Are you disconnecting your backups? (Store your backup in the cloud or physically take it off-site.)
- Are you encrypting your backups? (Protect them from bad actors.)
These simple steps can help ensure you are well prepared.
If you need help with any of these steps, contact your application vendor. If you are an ADD Systems client, we can help by putting processes in place to make sure your backups are there when you need them. Contact us at support@addsys.com or 800-922-0972. We are here to help!
